Virtual communications support that cuts through the noise

January is typically one the busiest months of the year for me and that's because clients are making final preparations for Data Protection Week, a huge opportunity for them to engage their employees on the latest data protection, AI and all the other related issues.
This year is no different, except the topics are more diverse than ever:
Avoiding AI deception online
Being prepared for data breaches.
GenAI prompt engineering.
Data protection's role in ESG
Safe use of GenAI
Latest update on tracking technologies.
Strategic horizon scanning
Awareness of various new laws in different jurisdictions
And honestly, I love it. The variety keeps me on my toes. It’s why I started Purpose and Means years ago to help leaders communicate their complex topics to top management and employees so they actually get the concepts.
Virtual communications support isn’t just about making noise. It’s about making an impact.
Here’s how I do it.
Breaking down the complex
The field we work in can feel overwhelming. It’s full of regulations, acronyms, and technical terms that intimidate some people or send them running for the hills. If your employees don’t understand it, they won’t act on it.
My role is to explain the complex, turning overwhelming information into resources that are clear, engaging, and practical.
Take the typical 20-page policy document. Dry. Dense. Ignored.
I transform that into something people want to interact with. Whether it’s:
A short, interactive video to explain key concepts.
An interactive quiz to test their knowledge.
A dilemma branching scenario that lets employees explore decision-making in real-world situations.
Or my newest product: a digital interactive book or policy pack, where employees can click, navigate, and interact with dynamic content, all in one place.
It’s all about creating tools that employees can use in their day-to-day work.
Tailored to your needs
Every company's situation is unique and different to others (obviously). It could be an urgent response to a specific issue, say, a new regulation in their sector. Others are looking for long-term support, like building awareness of AI risks or improving their ESG communications.
One size does not fit all. That’s why my work is always customised to the client’s needs. For example:
If you’re training your digital marketing or UI/UX team, I’ll go deep into the nuances of requirements and what they mean in their specific context
If frontline employees are the target audience, I’ll create content that’s practical and easy to digest, again, in their context.
I really do try to avoid generic stuff that only ticks a box. The format matters, and so does the tone.
It’s not just about what you want to say, it’s about what your employees need to hear.
And that’s the difference between information that sits on a server and communication that actually sticks.
Why virtual communications support matters
Why invest in virtual communications support in the first place?
Because most data protection leaders are overwhelmed, and/or lack the knowledge and competences to put together a stakeholder engagement plan and execute it throughout the year.
And your workplaces are overwhelmed too. Your employees already have overflowing inboxes, packed calendars, and too many priorities. Among the biggest challenges is to ensure your messages cut through the flood of other messages they are bombarded with from your peers that all look, sound and feel the same - same PowerPoint template, same generic corporate-speak.
You are competing for your employees' attention so your material needs to stand out, it needs to be eye-catching, hard to avoid.
If you want to engage them, and I mean truly engage them, you need to meet them where they are and that may involve tailoring content to whether they're Gen X, Millennials or Gen Z - or even Boomers II.
That means:
Communicating in formats they’re familiar with.
Keeping it concise.
Making it visually engaging and interactive.
Virtual communications support ensures you’re not just checking a compliance box, you’re building a workforce that understands the “why” behind their actions.
The work I love
What I love most about this work isn’t just being challenged to think differently and be creative. It’s the variety. One day, I’m crafting a branching scenario about AI ethics. The next, I’m designing an interactive policy pack on ESG. Then I’m producing an interactive video to explain the latest tracking technologies.
And the best part? Knowing that this work has a real impact. When an employee tells me a scenario helped them understand how to respond to a data breach, or when a client says their team finally gets the importance of an updated policy, I know I’ve done my job.
A partner for long-term success
Purpose and Means isn’t just about delivering content. It’s about building a relationship with you and your company, a partnership based on understanding your goals and challenges.
My goal is to make you look good.
I want to help you build trust with your employees, enable engagement, and create a culture where data protection isn’t a burden, it’s a shared responsibility.
So, whether you’re planning for Data Protection Week, tackling new regulations or emerging tech, or looking for fresh ways to educate your workforce, let’s work together.
With Purpose and Means, you’re not just getting a service, you’re getting a strategic partner who’s passionate about turning complex topics into simple, engaging solutions.
